The first big tournament of 2024 - BLAST Premier: Spring Groups 2024 - is heating up. The group stage of the qualifying championship is in full swing, where teams are fighting for a slot in the play-offs of the tournament.

Getting to the main stage is an important task, as the main prizes will be awarded there. Amongst the standard $190,000 cash prize, teams are fighting for BLAST points and spots in the next stage, namely 6 slots in the Spring Final and 10 slots in the Spring Showdown.

In the battle for seeding in the next stages, there are place and C9 with Heroic. They will close the first round of Group D matches with their face-to-face match.

We are trying to figure out which of the teams will be stronger and move further up the grid, and who will fall to the lower grid.

Cloud9 Form.

We open the match analysis with an analysis of C9's form. In this match the team will play the number one, with odds to win at around 1.6.

C9 had a pretty intense 2023 season. "Cloudy" celebrated a passage to the grand finals of ESL Pro League Season 17 and a victory at BLAST Premier: Spring European Showdown 2022.

In addition, the team won the commercial BB Playlist. Urbanistic. In April, C9 seriously stumbled: they lost two qualifications at BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 and missed the only Major of the season.

Next up was a top-4 finish at IEM Rio 2023 and a win at Brazy Party. Before IEM Cologne 2023, C9 failed IEM Dallas 2023 (top-8) and BLAST Premier: Spring Final 2023 (top-8).

Before Gamers8 Cloud9 attended another major summer tournament - IEM Cologne 2023. The most prestigious event went well for Cloud9: not good, but not bad either.

A very difficult Long Corner in Cologne forced Cloud9 to mobilise all their resources in order not to drop out at the group stages, and these resources were enough until the first round of play-offs, where C9 were defeated by Vitality.

Next, C9 visited Gamers8, but even there everything was not so good. At the TOP-8 stage the team faced ENCE, and they were unable to do anything against the overclocked Finns. And that's how they ended up in the TOP-8.

In their debut match at EPL Season 18, Cloud9 played against Eternal Fire. The Turks, being a cheerful team on paper, failed to outplay C9 on at least one of the cards: the match ended 2-0 (16-11 Vertigo, 16-12 Eternal Fire).

In the play-offs match C9 faced Complexity. Being the absolute favourite of the match, Cloud9 failed to give CoL a fight and lost 0-2.

Cloud9's failures didn't end there. After getting into the net of the last chance of EPL Season 18, Cloud9 lost 1-2 to Liquid in a rather lacklustre manner, thus failing to qualify for the play-offs of the prestigious tournament. At the end of EPL S18, C9 finished in the top 20, which, to put it mildly, is weak for a top-tier team, which C9 was called by literally everyone who could not help themselves.

However, before the IEM Sydney IEM Long Convergence, C9 managed to rehabilitate themselves a bit for their mediocre performance at the last TOP tournaments. C9 won the BLAST Premier: Fall European Showdown 2023, earning them a slot at the BLAST Autumn Finals.

Before competing at Thunderpick World Championship 2023, Cloud9 made an appearance at IEM Sydney 2023. It wasn't great there, as C9 failed to make it past the group stage, crashing out after losing to Complexity.

Thunderpick World Championship 2023 was C9's first tournament with BoombI4 officially as captain. It worked out pretty well: Cloud9 made it to the play-offs of the tournament and finished in the top 4, losing in the semi-finals to the future champions from FaZe with a 1-2 score.

At the end of the last season C9 played two BLAST tournaments. This was the BLAST Premier Fall Final 2023 followed by a top-4 and top-6 finish at BLAST Premier: World Finals 2024.

Next is Inferno. On Inferno Cloud9 played 5 times, of which they won 3 matches.

Minus winrate on 4 maps at once: Ancient (42% wins in 7 matches), Overpass (33% wins in 3 matches), Anubis (3 matches, 33% wins), Mirage (2 matches, 0 wins).

Heroic Form

We continue the match analysis with the analysis of Heroic's form. The Danish club will play the number two in this match, with odds to win at around 2.2.

For the entire year 2023, Heroic have barely left the championship podium. It all started with BLAST Premier: Spring Groups 2023, where Heroic took the top 4.

Then there was IEM Katowice 2023 and an offensive TOP-2. The only spoonful of honey in Heroic's honey barrel was ESL Pro League Season 17, where the Danes didn't rise above TOP-8.

Then Heroic came back and had a streak of great tournaments. It was top-2 at IEM Rio 2023, top-4 BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 and IEM Dallas 2023. Heroic went on to win the BLAST Premier: Spring Final 2023 and also finished in the top 3 of the BLAST Premier: Fall Groups 2023

Before their performance at Gamers8 Heroic attended another prestigious tournament - IEM Cologne. Being one of the main contenders to win the German tournament, the Danes made it to the play-offs of the competition, but there they couldn't move further than the first round. Heroic lost to Astralis in the first round of the IEM Cologne play-offs with a score of 0-2.

At Gamers8 they debuted with a match against Falcons. In general, the game ended predictably, but the French gave a fight, especially on the first map (Mirage 22-18 in favour of Heroic). The second one went to Heroic with the score 16-10.

In the previous match Heroic faced GamerLegion. Despite GL's seemingly idle position in that match, they were able to get on the Danes' nerves and take the map, but still lost in the end.

Heroic ended Gamers8 with a match against ENCE. The Danish club again failed to beat the Finns and left the major championship at the top-4 stage.

In the first match at ESL Pro League Season 18, the team played against Rooster. The Australians offered no resistance and took 6 rounds in two games.

Next was BIG - another passable opponent for Heroic, but it was not to be. The Danes lost 0-2, losing on Ancient with a score of 23-25 and on Inferno with a score of 13-16.

Heroic got into the last chance net after a 0-2 loss at MOUZ. So from the "achievements" so far, a win over the raw Roosters and that's it. It looks very deplorable. And it ended no better: Heroic Ledge and Monte crashed out of ESL Pro League Season 18.

Next up was Roobet Cup 2023, where Heroic finished in the top 12. After unsatisfactory performance at EPL and Roobet Cup Heroic played not better at Thunderpick World Championship 2023 and BLAST Premier: Fall Final 2023. There, it was top-8 and top-6 respectively. Heroic finished the year with a performance at BLAST Premier: World Final 2023. At that time, the team finished in the top 8.

In 2024, Heroic managed to win the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024: European Open Qualifier, advancing to the closed qualifiers.
