Thunder Awaken are the main stars of the current The International, for me that's for sure. Even if they lose here and get eliminated in the next round, nothing will change for me.

The team broke the stereotype about the one-sidedness and uncompetitiveness of the South American region in DotA. And I can't call the performance at this tournament some kind of luck, Thunder play like lions.

As the year progressed, the team dominated the home stage and played in the Majors twice. At the first stage, the team took TOP-6, and at the second, TOP-16, which raised doubts about their ability to play on the international arena.

However, with the start of The International 2022, all doubts were dispelled.

At the main tournament of the year, Thunder Awaken got into group B, where they faced Team Aster, Tundra Esports, Secret, Fnatic, Spirit and other “big” clubs in the world.

In such a company, Thunder was not lost, even more, they supplemented it, simultaneously squeezing out contenders for the TOP-4. This happened with Team Secret, for example.

Thunder Awaken finished the group stage 2-6-1 in series and 10-8 in maps. Their only loss was in a match against Entity.

In the playoffs, Evil Geniuses chose them as their opponent. The North American team apparently thought that the neighbors from South America, who are close in spirit, are not a reason to strain and an easy passage to the TOP-6 is guaranteed to them. Probably many people thought so, except for Thunder themselves.

The Peruvians swept away Evil Geniuses, not giving them a chance not just to comeback, but even to play DotA. The beating looked especially elegant on the second map, where Thunder Awaken crushed EG in 29 minutes with the help of Dawnbraker and Morph with Tiny.

I have already sung tirades in honor of the Thunder performers, but they deserve it. The beauty of Thunder is that they don't play the archetypal hit-and-run dota often associated with South Americans. They can show the academic level of DotA, which, thanks to the personal level of the performers, plays with bright colors.

Thunder Awaken play a bit of their own DotA. They don't really honor meta characters like Shadow Fiend, and prefer to get rid of Broodmother at the ban stage.

I expect high-speed DotA from this fight. Both teams are not averse to playing at a high pace, as demonstrated by their previous matches. Given the playoff trend, 2 maps may well await us, because the meta formed at the tournament does not give second chances.

I am impressed by both teams in terms of the game, and they play, as for me, on an equal footing. I would like Puppey to compete for Aegis again, because it deserves it and does a great job for this from season to season, but the “Cinderella story” is always appropriate at such events.

In general, I suggest taking a head start on Thunder, and then come what may.
