Mirage is an extremely popular map in the community. It is highly demanded not just in matchmaking but at professional tournaments, which is proved by the statistics of picks at the recent RMR tournaments in Europe and America (the third popular pick after Nuke and Inferno).

No one argues the fact that to prevail, you will need not just to shoot accurately but know many grenades, which help to cut off the important sections of the map and provide space for your team.

In this guide, we will talk about an important smoke throw, which will help players to hold the center of the map and cut off the supporting player from short. We will reveal two options for smoke throwing: the classic one (it is thrown while staying behind the boxes in the middle) and the safe one (it is thrown from the T-spawn).

First of all, we will need to adjust our own server to practice grenade throws. Do the following actions step-by-step:

1. Host a map in the «Practice with bots» mode and choose any side.
2. Launch the console and enter the following commands:

• bind "o" noclip (any key you want)

We can move to a practice of smoke-throwing right after entering all commands.

How to smoke short on the map Mirage?

The first option

Buy a smoke grenade, wait till the end of freeze time, and run toward the middle of the map.

Stand behind boxes and rest against the left corner of the card, which closes the view of the players of the opposite team.

Raise the sight and aim the antenna, which is sticking out of the building. Then aim at the left edge of the highest branch of the antenna.

Press LMB and throw a grenade without jumpthrow.

As a result, the smoke grenade will land directly at the short position, closing the view of the player’s potential movement from the bombsite B. Besides, smoke spreads way that closes the view for the player who can be in the ladder room.

Now, we offer you to read about the second option, which is safer in our opinion. First of all, there is no need to go to mid, so you will not catch the enemy’s grenade. Secondly, we can use it to fake to distract the sniper’s attention from bombsite A.

The second option

Buy a smoke grenade, wait till the end of freeze time, and run towards the ladder.

Stand under the stairs and on the curb closest to you, clinging to the wall.

Sit down and aim at the upper right corner of the carpet, which hangs on one of the roofs of the houses.

Throw a grenade using jumpthrow.

Smoke spreads directly across the short, closing the opportunities for players both at the bombsite B and the ladder room.

Why is smoking short necessary?

The middle of the map is an important component, which allows you to control the opponent. Excluding rapid and deliberate rounds, using the middle part provides the team an opportunity to get the necessary information about the enemy’s location, positions, and movements.

At the same time, the short position, if we look at it from the defense players’ perspective, allows you to draw the attention of the attacking players from the connector and window, creating a positive situation during positioning.

If we have a closer look, smoking short allows the attacking side to cut off the important aorta on the map, which guarantees them safety when splitting the bombsite A. Besides, if the window is smoked, the attack literally unties its hands and gains a guaranteed tactical advantage over its opponent.

Also, this smoke allows to cut off the possible rotation of the opponents who will be trying to retake after bombsite A is captured by the attacking side.
